The tyrannical head of the association, Leonard Sr, is looking to steal her property on the cheap

When maple syrup producer Ruth Landry sees her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a warehouse in Quebec; five people were sentenced to prison. In rural Quebec, Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) struggles to maintain her maple farm while her husband is in a coma.

The Fargo is strong in this film

Remy Bouchard (Guillaume Cyr) is the lonely, frustrated security guard at the association warehouse. Mike Byrne (Chris Diamantopoulos) is a low-level fundraiser with a Boston mob family. Like that franchise, it could have been a movie or a TV show.

It’s been honored

It also has the snow, the quirky criminals and the small-town folks, and even the true/not true story. The cast is led by the greatness of Margo Martindale and the slightly unhinged Chris Diamantopoulos. Two things worry me at first and hold it back a bit.

The other problem is the language barrier

The story is inherently silly and I’m not sure the Fargo treatment is worth it. It’s something that takes some getting used to. Despite the slow start, the series leaves me wanting more.
