A Norwegian family vacationing in La Palma faces chaos when a researcher discovers signs of an imminent volcanic eruption that could trigger a massive tsunami. If you’re into foreign films, stick to the original language with subtitles – trust me.

You hold out for the inevitable tsunami shot, which of course remains hostage until the finale

"La Palma" is a passable 6 out of 10 in Norwegian, but slap on the English dub and it jumps to a painful 1. The picturesque European landscapes are stunning, the kind that draw you in, but the charm quickly fades as the characters start to make one boneheaded decision after another.

Is it worth the wait?

Maybe – but don’t fast forward. The character arcs are hit or miss: the daughter’s nap, but watching the father evolve from schlubby burnout to action hero with shades of Tom Cruise?
