As Gavin and Stacey fall in love, Essex and Wales collide, taking their friends, family and baggage with them. Apart from the first episode filmed in London, the entire series is filmed in Wales, including the scenes featuring scenes. House used as Essex’s freight forwarders’ (Gavin’s family home) is located in the village 1 mile north-west of Barry, Dinas Powys, where the Wests (Stacey’s family) live. The cars have completely different number plates to the previous series. Gavin’s blue Saxo has changed from a T-reg (MY 1999) to an X-reg (MY 2000). Bryn’s green Picasso has changed from a CV02 (MY 2002, registered in Cardiff) to an HV54 (MY 2004, registered in Portsmouth). They are obviously different cars.. Gavin & Stacey: Outtakes (2007). It’s not mind-blowing and it doesn’t move mountains or shift paradigms. Rather, it’s a character study in the relationship of a couple and two (extended) families who come together after marriage: one from Wales and the other from England. It’s an easy, fun, friendly watch. I wish there were more shows like this around where every character is kind-hearted, loving, community-minded, despite their flaws, and thinks and expresses love for the people in their lives. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s not meant to be. It’s an honest slice of life and it’s beautiful. It’s not a British comedy that often has laugh-a-minutes. Instead, this is character-driven. Highly recommended.
