Nearly three decades have passed since the rabies virus escaped from a bioweapons laboratory, and now, in a still ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to survive among the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily guarded bridge. When one of the team leaves the island for a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, they discover secrets, wonders and horrors that have changed not only the infected but the other survivors as well.
